Nursery Consultation

Proposal for expanding and lowering the age range for Nursery provision at Branton Primary School to provide increased spaces for children aged 9 months plus

Your views are important to us. We would like to gain your views and comments on our school’s proposal and provide you with the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the proposals.

Background information

Branton Primary School and Nursery is a small rural school within Northumberland. Childcare and facilties for families in the local area are inlimited.  In April 2025 we became part of the Pele Trust. The school has taken 2 year olds for a number of years but we are full most days.

What are we proposing and where?

The DFE are providing selected schools with an EYFS capital grant to fund expanded EYFS provision. We have been successful in our expression of interest with the local authority and now need to complete the formal DFE application. The proposed separate purpose built EYFS unit/wrap around space will be a new build on the school grounds.

We are proposing to establish an expanded EYFS provision where all children aged 2 years and above can access provision from 8 to 5:30pm, all year round.  We are also interested in providing provision for under 2s, as this is something that our community have already expressed an interest in. SEND children will also be able to access this purpose built provision.

The primary reason for doing this is to provide high quality, school-based provision for our local community, in an area where childcare and access to facilities is extremely limited. It meets with the governments Best Start to Life agenda.
